This article provides recommendations for the best audio quality for your virtual meetings.
We understand that it's not always possible to use a landline or have great bandwidth so we hope to set your expectations if these are not available.
Choppy or garbled audio may occur if the following conditions are not met:
|
A hardwired connection is best if available.
Wireless connection is less dependable and can possibly drop. Other applications on your computer should be turned off during your meeting.
Another program might affect your meeting quality. Other users on a shared network should stop streaming services for video or music until your meeting is over.
Meetings require Internet bandwidth. Use computer mic or landline phone for capturing your voice.
Using a cell phone subjects others to line noise and you may drop off the call. Your audio equipment is working properly.
Check for any loose cables or switches on your microphone or headset which may result in faulty performance. |
Preventing Audio Echo?
Tip 1: Check the number mics you have.
Make sure all but one mic is disabled.
If you are experiencing audio echo in your meeting that you have confirmed is coming from your audio source, first check your Audio devices.
While in an active meeting session,
- Navigate to the Settings menu by clicking on the gear icon on the top left of the screen.
- Select Audio & Video.
- Ensure that the correct microphone device is chosen:

Verify that only one microphone is enabled to prevent echo. You might not be aware that you may be using multiple microphone devices on your desk picking up your voice. Common sources include built-in mics on laptops, webcams, and stand-alone mics.
Tip 2: Avoiding Echo with Speakers

When you use a microphone on your desk, it picks up the sound from your speakers. Use a headset to avoid echo caused by speakers. If a headset is not available, ensure the microphone and speakers are far apart or turn down speaker volume.
Tip 3: Dealing with a Loud Room

Be aware that multiple people talking in headsets in the same room can cause sound pickup and echo issues. If others are at their desks and are in the meeting as well, they will hear each other in their mics. Coordinate with other users to minimize overlap and feedback.
Switching to Phone for Audio
If computer audio is not working, switch to phone audio by selecting the phone option in the audio settings:
