By default, Excel doesn't support Click-To-Call as Outlook does, so it will require a little bit of tinkering to start using Excel as a dialing list to simply click a number and start a call via UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT or any other softphone application.

Important: This workaround requires the UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT application to be selected as the default app for TEL: and CALLTO: link types on the computer. Check the UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT Desktop App: Click-To-Call article to learn how to do it.

These are the steps to enable Click-To-Call in Excel:

  1. Open a new Excel Sheet
  2. Create three columns labeled:
    • Column A – Name (optional)
    • Column B Phone Number
    • Column C Click-to-Call
Note: the labels of the columns are just for easy identification. They can be named anything you want.
  3. In the column B add the list of phone numbers you want to convert into Click-To-Call hyperlinks.
  4. In the first cell below the label of column C, type = to enter formulas.
  5. Copy and paste the following formula HYPERLINK(CONCATENATE("TEL:",B2)). You may need to adjust the selected cell number where the formula is getting the phone number from by changing the B2 to the correct cell number.
This will create a TEL: hyperlink with the phone number of the selected cell in column B. At this point, you can test if it works.

  6. Drag the lower right-corner of the cell containing the first completed Click-To-Call hyperlink down the last B cell counterpart in column C to populate the formula in all of those cells, creating the hyperlink in each one.

How to use:

To use it simply double-click on the hyperlink or hover over it and then click on the UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT icon, the app will pop up and the number will appear on the dial pad, then click on the Call button to initiate the call.
