This article describes how to manage Fax Resources for analog Fax Devices with ATA adaptors. It includes instructions on creating new Fax Resources, mass creation of Fax Resources, editing or deleting Fax Resource settings, and managing devices associated with Fax Resources.

A Fax Resource is a virtual user specifically designed for Fax ATA Devices provisioned to your account. This setup allows the device to gain additional features:

  • Assign multiple Direct Dial Numbers
  • Configurable outbound caller ID
  • Location of resource: the location carries over to the E911 of the device.

Create New Fax Resource

To create a new Fax Resource:

  1. As an administrator, log into Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to Services > UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT at the top of the screen.
  3. Select the Resources & Utilities tab on the left navigation pane.
  4. Click the Create green button.
  5. Choose the Fax resource option from the drop-down menu.
  6. Fill in the information on the Create fax resource page, including:
    • Naming your fax resource
    • Setting a location where this fax resource will be used
    • Selecting the extension
    • Assigning a phone number
  7. Click Create fax resource.
  8. Confirm the charges for this operation on the pop-up.

Mass Fax Resources Creation

To create fax resources in bulk, follow these steps:

  1. As an administrator, log into Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to Services > UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT at the top of the screen.
  3. Select the Resources & Utilities tab on the left navigation pane.
  4. Click Bulk create.
  5. On the Step 1. Download template section, click on the Download template button to get the .csv template file.
  6. Fill out the template with necessary data according to these guidelines and save it  as a .csv file to your computer:
    • Type (required): The only accepted values are Resource and Fax resource, in this case use Fax resource.
    • Name (required): It can be anything but avoid special characters.
    • Location (required): Use the exact names of the locations. To check the location names log into your Control Panel, then navigate to UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT > Locations.
    • Phone Number (required): It must include country code 1 at the beginning of the number, no spaces, no dashes or parentheses (E.164 format). Example: 12342345678.
    • Extension (required): Any available extensions.
    • Plan (required): The accepted values are Fax Line (pay per use)Fax Line (500 min) and Fax Line.
      Note: Name, Extension, and Phone Number must be unique.
    • A Voicemail PIN is optional. This field can be left blank.
    • For EMEA accounts, the Phone Number and Location fields must be from the same country. 
    • Note: Up to 1,000 objects can be created in one operation. Resources and Fax Resources can be combined in a single .csv file.
  7. In the Step 2. Upload file section, click on the Choose file button to upload the completed .csv template file.
  8. Click the Start creation button to initiate the process.
  9. The resource creation process will begin, taking you to the Status page. This page contains a table showing all mass operations on the account. To see information about a specific operation, click on the Process drop-down menu and select the operation to view details. Click Refresh list to update the status.

  10. If the process takes a long time, or if you need to check the status later, you can find the assignment history under Services > UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT > Resources & Utilities > Creation status.
  11. Once complete, the results will show either Completed or Done with errors.
  12. Review the detailed results for a row by clicking anywhere on that row. Click Download errors to correct mistakes and retry.

Edit Fax Resource Settings / Delete Fax Resource

To access and edit your Fax Resource general settings:

  1. As an administrator, log into Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to Services > UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT at the top of the screen.
  3. Select the Resources & Utilities tab on the left navigation pane.
  4. Click on the Fax Resource name.
  5. You can change the following settings on the General tab:
    • Update the Name
    • Change the Extension
    • Change or assign Phone Numbers
    • Update the payment Plan
    • Adjust the Outbound Caller ID
    • Change the Location
  6. Click the Save changes button to confirm.

To delete a Fax Resource:

  1. As an administrator, log into Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to Services > UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT at the top of the screen.
  3. Select the Resources & Utilities tab on the left navigation pane.
  4. Check the Fax Resource you wish to delete.
  5. Click the red Delete button.

Manage Devices

To assign the Fax Resource to a new ATA device:

  1. As an administrator, log into Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to Services > UNIVERGE BLUE® CONNECT at the top of the screen.
  3. Select the Resources & Utilities tab on the left navigation pane.
  4. Check the Fax Resource you wish to reassign.
  5. Switch to the Devices tab.
  6. Click the Assign new button.
  7. Select any available fax adapter from the Device drop-down.
  8. Ensure the E911 address for the device is current and correct.
  9. Read the 911 Policy and limitations and check the box to acknowledge.
    Note: E911 information applies only to North America.
  10. Click the Assign device button.
  11. The Devices list will open, and you will see the ATA assigned and ready for use.
